As some of you may know, I just recently purchased a house. I had been thinking about buying a home ever since I heard about the tax rebate for first time home buyers. Every where I have lived in Florida has had a pretty outrageous monthly rent, and with the addition of the dogs I really wasn't looking forward to find a new apartment. So starting in January I took the plunge and made an offer on a house. It took all of February but everything finally went through and I moved into my new home the first week of March.
So far I've been here for most of a week and the having a home definitely has a lot of perks. Firstly I have lots of room that I can do whatever I want with. My mom came into town to see the house and help me move and it was nice have enough space for her to have a room while she visited.
While she was here, we put in a dog door, built an enclosure for my ac unit, installed a gate, created a vent hole for my dryer, installed my washer and dryer, and put mini blinds up for all the windows. Aside from all the home improvement projects we also moved everything of mine into the new place and got it mostly set up. I still have one room of clutter to organize and assign a home to, but the place is livable.
I'll post pictures of the place soon, but it's been raining today so I didn't get a chance. The rain however brings me to the other side of home buying.
I woke up this morning to a wet spot in my floor and water dripping near my bed. The seller replaced the front part of the roof, but the back part was supposedly okay. Luckily it wasn't a big leak, and I was able to cover it with a tarp at 4 this morning when I got up and noticed the leak, but since I did it at 4 it wasn't the best job and I didn't double check it before I left for work. At some point in the day the wind caught it and blew the tarp up to where it didn't really cover the proper area....
So tomorrow will be patch the roof day. I'm hoping it is only one spot I can seal up with some tar, but if not I may be re-roofing. Luckily the rain is suppose to stop tonight and it's suppose to be sunny all weekend.
Here's hoping.
