Yesterday on my way home from work I stopped by the local Lowes. Now that I have a permanent space that I can call my own, I have noticed that I have lots of projects I want to accomplish. So yesterday I picked up supplies for building another bookshelf and for building my repair bench. Both of these projects I hope to accomplish before the weekend and so far I am off to a good start.
I got home today and find out from my elderly neighbor that my two heathens had escaped from the yard and terrorized the neighborhood. By terrorize I mean that they barked at everyone going by, and ran away from my nice neighbor who tried to corral them back into the yard. Luckily they stayed close to home and eventually wandered back into the yard. At which point my neighbor came over and plugged up the hole which they had dug to escape.
After placing some cement blocks around the edge of the fence so that they will hopefully not escape again, I set about cooking dinner, feeding the dogs, and then going on a walk. It is nice being close to the Pinellas Trail again. The puppies and I walked around 2 miles tonight, and then after we got home I built a bookshelf.
To be fair this was my second rodeo for bookshelf building, so I wasn't really doing anything too hard. But for a little bit of variety I decided to build this one without any help. It is interesting to me what you can accomplish on your own. Obviously building a bookcase is easier when someone else is around to help hold and level things for you, but I was able to do it without anything but my own two hands and the intrusion of 8 paws. LOL I didn't get it varnished before the daylight left, but I still say it was a good evenings work. Tomorrow I hope to varnish it and cross my fingers build my work bench.
On a different note, it seems that for every project I finish two or three pop up to replace it. The fence has been bumped up to a priority, and I think I have devised a way to ensure that the dogs can't escape from the new fence, but I have to decide if I want to shell out the 3 grand for someone else to install it, or if I just want to buy the parts which will cost me around 1 grand maybe, and then do it myself...
but for today I am content with a bookcase.
